2 Fast Coves

Karah, McCall and John Walker made for a fast Sunriser crew for the fastest 2 coves I think I've done yet (although there were occasional surreptitious panting breaks).  It was a veritable Piccadilly Circus with the early Sunriser crew out at Alcatraz, the rest of us were milling around the cove, preparing for Saturday's Cinco de Mayo 5 coves of death...

Fine tuning is definitely necessary, as I hit the Balclutha this morning, and still don't know how to weave my way through the piers without getting friendly with the starfishes.

McCall's cove initiation was a bit of a wake-up call, as she stretched us all to the limit, and didn't seem to get out of first gear.  We'll have to tie weights to her ankles, or get her to drink more.

Pedro rocks.  I can't wait to do something that I have never done before - Swim Around the Rock - from Aquatic Park around Alcatraz and back.  It looks like there is a very strong field of interesting people, including some English Channel swimmers, some Catalina Channel swimmers and more:

Many man's dream night out, when combined with the charming company of the women's South End Rowing Club open water swim team.

Eating and drinking are critical parts of training, and after some nutritional experimentation with carbohydrate rich fluids...

...we went next door to Rosamunde for sausages.  My brother joined, and feeling hungry after only a small piece of wild boar in a bun, we went for post-hot-dog pasta at Luisa's on Union.

I'm hoping I can get up in the morning
