We made it! A 6 hour swim, and it felt pretty good. We started at the Golden Gate at 4.30am, came in to Fort Mason, went back around the far side of Alcatraz, and then down to Candlestick, with a detour to look at AT&T Park.
Going round the far side of Alcatraz with the birds flying up at our approach, and the guards loud-hailing us to keep our distance, as we crawled past the abandoned prison buildings, was spectacular.
Apparently we were on Channel 11 news, so it must have been a slow news day. We were unbelievably lucky with the weather - it was flat and sunny. Seth and Scott joined Bob in the zodiac, and feasted on a wide variety of foodstuffs as they basked in the sun.
The back started tightening up later than usual, around 5 hours, so the chiropractor ART work and the core strengthening seems to be working... or maybe I just wasn't pushing as hard. I breathed bilaterally for about 4 hours, so that was a big breakthrough. The right shoulder let me know it was there, but it wasn't too much of a problem.
Altogether highly successful. Michelle was a rockstar as usual, finishing hard, and many thanks to Seth, Scott and the incomparable Bob Roper for their care and feeding.
